Where you rent from a housing association and:you were not transferred from a local council tenancy before 1st April 1997and/orfirst commenced a tenancy with a housing association on or after 1st April 1997but have been a tenant for five years or more, you will probably be eligible for ‘Right to Acquire’ rather than Right to Buy.The majority of terms and conditions, and the process, are very similar
between ‘Right to Acquire’ and Right to Buy, EXCEPT ....The maximum applicable discounts are regionally set and vary between £9,000 and £16,000 (a complete list of applicable discount by region is available in our ‘More Information’ section). As we indicate in ‘The Process’ an early informal enquiry with your landlord will normally give a good indication of your eligibility under either scheme and allow you to give some initial consideration to your options.Only those housing associations who were registered with the Tenet Services Authority (prior to 1st April 2012 - their role has been transferred to Department of Communities and Government) participate in the ‘Right to Acquire’ scheme.
THERE MAY BE A FEE FOR MORTGAGE ADVICE - TYPICALLY £350 FOR A PURCHASE UNDER THE RIGHT TO BUY SCHEMERIGHT TO BUY MORTGAGES - The overall rate for comparison is 4.5%. The actual rate will depend on your circumstances.YOUR HOME MAY BE REPOSSESSED IF YOU DO NOT KEEP UP REPAYMENT ON YOUR MORTGAGE
